At GBS, each academic term spans approximately 12 weeks, similar to many independent schools. Each term is divided into two half terms, each lasting around 6 weeks, with a 1-week break in between. At the end of each term, students typically have a longer holiday break of around 2 weeks.
In total, the academic year includes 39 instructional weeks when accounting for holidays and breaks. While GBS holiday dates may vary from other institutions, our schedule is designed to provide a balanced academic year with ample time for learning and rest.
The differences between GCSE and IGCSE lie in their international recognition and examination options. IGCSE’s are globally respected two-year courses available worldwide, with some subjects incorporating more globalised content. They offer exams in three sessions per year (May-June, November, or January) to accommodate students. At Global British School, IGCSE’s are assessed solely through examinations. Our online schooling program ensures students have access to both GCSEs and IGCSE’s, providing a comprehensive and internationally recognised education.
