Key Stage 3 – Computing
Cambridge Lower Secondary Computing

About the Subject
Cambridge Lower Secondary Computing helps learners
understand how computers work. This stimulating course gives students the opportunity to look inside a computer
to understand the purpose of different components.
They will develop coding skills in text-based programming languages, such as Python, and begin to appreciate how computers are used.
Specifics

Delivery Method | Start Date | Duration |
---|---|---|
Online, real-time classrooms, 24/7 access to the curriculum | September onwards, throughout the year | Lower Secondary - Year 7 to Year 9. The learning objectives are designed by Cambridge to ensure a seamless progression in learning from Stage 7 to Stage 9 and further into Cambridge Upper Secondary and beyond. |
Course Grading
Assessment
In Computing, student progress is measured through weekly formative assessments that provide consistent feedback on their understanding and skill development. These assessments include group discussions, collaboration, written tasks, quizzes, and presentations.
What Will Your Child Learn?
Students will explore computational theories and processes as abstract concepts, problem-solving strategies, and design elements in their own solutions. Students will learn how to:
-
- extract key information from a set of instructions, break down problems into smaller parts and learn how to solve them
- present algorithms in an increasingly complex way
- think logically to identify and solve errors in complex computing scenarios
- see themselves as computer scientists and understand how skills such as programming and logical thinking help in local and global industries
- understand the role that computers, other machines and data play in a range of industries.
